Hot Mess of the Week: Meek Mill and “Meeking”

meekanddrakeHas someone ever accused you of lying and then they go on an arduous rant about you? But when you hit them back, their response is kinda…dry? Then the person could be “meeking”, something you and Drake may have in common.

If you’ve been hiding under a rock all week, you missed the shit show of a spectacle between the supposed “beef” between rapper Meek Mill and Drake. To catch up, Mill first called out Drake on Twitter for allegedly working with a ghostwriter in writing his raps (a big no-no in hip hop). In the span of the week, Drake released two dis tracks “Charged Up” and “Back to Back”, sparking a flood of hilarious memes in favor of Toronto’s own and putting Meek’s back against the wall. Everyone expected a response from Mill on Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex’s show that never transpired. Instead, Mill and his team began dropping hints that they would release a dis track. Finally Mill released “Wanna Know”, and it was…underwhelming to say the least (I still wanna know who “pissed” on Drake).

What we’re thinking of as a genuine rap beef between two of music’s biggest rap stars at the moment, seems more like Mill just being petty. Understandably as Drake is a huge star and Meek is just scratching the surface with the release of his second album, “Dreams Worth More Than Money”. Add in the awkwardness of the high profile relationship with Drake’s YMCB mate Nicki Minaj, it seems like Mill is scraping at Drake’s “6 God” level.

In which, the Internet has coined a new term based off of all of this: meeking.

Meeking

/mēk-ing/

verb

Used to describe the action of someone who gets upset at another for not liking/ following/ responding to their social media, phone calls/ texts and then proceeds to maliciously rant about you to anyone who will listen.

Sounds familiar? Have you ever experienced meeking from a friend or relative? Perhaps for not liking a friend’s Instagram pic or not calling your bae back at the time you said you would call (or worse, sending a one word text). Yeah we’ve all experienced that. On an unrelated note, this is in NO way similar to the traditional adjective “meek” – quiet, gentle, and easily imposed on; submissive.

Le sigh, let’s hope this meeking trend doesn’t catch on. Also, Score 1 for Drake, 0 for Meek Mill.
